Why is it that some people thoroughly enjoy punning and some people absolutely loathe it?
I for one can appreciate the cleverness of a good pun. But whenever one is said in the company of several people, one or more always let out a groan. Why? I work with a young man who has an old soul but a young naive mind. He likes his puns, that is a fact. He actually enjoys getting the groans from the haters. He insists that there is actually science behind why some people hate and others love puns. He rattled off some hogwash about chemicals in the brain and physiological differences int the brain neurons that effect our funny bone.
I never gave it much thought before but after getting to know this punster, I too got in on the fun and realized how much I use puns in my daily life to illustrate a point and inject humor, not realizing of course that I may be considered offensive.
My conclusion is this: I think the pun haters actually hate themselves for being duped or not thinking of it themselves. They secretly admire the punner and aspire to be more like them. We cannot control what they think.
I will leave you with this final thought. "I came to the realization that my universal remote control does not control the universe. Not even remotely."
